Bengaluru: The inter-state transport services between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu which stopped on September 6 owing to protests over the Cauvery water sharing are yet to resume. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is suffering an average loss of Rs 50 lakh per day due to cancellation of services to Tamil Nadu. The officials in KSRTC are still clueless about resuming services to its neighbouring state.

“We were expecting a positive verdict from the Supreme Court on Tuesday, but unfortunately the apex court reiterated its stand to release more Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. So we don’t know the impact of the order on the state border as well as in Tamil Nadu. We don’t want to take any risk since it is a sensitive issue,” said a KSRTC official.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) has also stopped its operations to Karnataka putting commuters into trouble. Sources said only a few private buses operated between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Many private operators are running buses with Puducherry, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh registration between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to evade the protesters. Many bus passengers complain that most buses are stopped some 2km away from the border in Hosur and passengers with luggage have to walk to reach Attibele and then take another vehicle.

Commuters hope and pray that the issue between the two states get resolved soon which could help in resuming the transport services.
