Tradition of Carrying Gold Crown on Elephant Essential, Min Jayachandra

Bangalore: The recommendation of High Court based on the report presented by elephant taskforce, in order to discontinue the tradition to let the decorated elephant to carry golden crown weighing 750 kilograms thereby causing cruelty during the historical Mysore Dasa is impossible to abandon, said the state law minister T B Jayachandra.

Addressing the media persons, minister Jayachandra said that its age-old traditions, while the respective elephant is trained every year and prepared for the event by providing nutritious food.  It will not amount to cruelty, said minister Jayachandra.

The assembly has approved majority of recommendations set up elephant taskforce in order to avoid conflict between elephant and humans, said minister Jayachandra.  Meanwhile, he assured that the recommendations related to preserve elephantine habitats, and developing their vicinity, added minister Jayachandra.  He also said that the height of barbed wires will be raised in forests that are much frequented by elephants, said minister Jayachandra.
