Bangalore/Chennai: Tamilnadu approached Supreme Court over Karnataka not releasing sufficient water and placed its arguments to counter the likely resolution being passed by Karnataka Assembly on September 23.
TN government has contended that 3000 cusecs is not sufficient. It has demanded 17.5 TMC of water from Karnataka dams by this month end and demanded 50 TMC of water in total for samba crop.
In the mean time Karnataka legislative council passed a resolution today not to release water to TN, saying that the water is required to meet the drinking water needs of cities and towns relying on Cauvery.
In the assembly, JDS leader Kumaraswamy termed the decision of the SC as most inappropriate.
In the mean time BJP MP from Mysuru Pratap Simha was taken to task for his inaction on Cauvery issue by protestors.
Farmer leader and MLA KS Puttaniah too urged the CM in the assembly not to release water to TN and placed statistics before the house to prove that the demand for water by TN is not in line with their actual requirement .
