Dharwad: A year and twenty three days have passed since rationalist and scholar Prof. MM Kalburgi (77) was killed here at his residence, but there was no progress in investigation so far.
Intellectuals across the country who had converged on his death anniversary had stressed on the government to expedite investigation and arrest those two youths who had killed Prof. Kalburgi at point blank range on August 30, 2015 at his residence in Kalyannagar.
Majority public leaders, intellectuals, officials, Police, CID sleuths frequented Prof. Kalburgi’s residence many time but to no avail.
The life goes on as normal at his residence, but the crater created by his loss remains unfilled so far. His family members including his wife Umadevi have not yet recovered from the tragic incident of his murder at his doorstep.
Still his family remains hopeful that the two unidentified men, who shot him dead will be brought to book an get appropriate punishment.
Speaking to ‘News Karnataka’ Kalbugi’s son Srivijay said that after first death anniversary of his father he along with some intellectuals met the Home minister, who assured them of speedy investigation into the matter.
He quoted the Home minister as saying that the investigation was on right direction, following the vast network of aspects involved in the murder, the details of enquiry could not be shared.
The family is now busy in bringing out Prof. Kalburgi’s unpublished works which include a composition of poems and a drama, he said.

Two unidentified persons had shot dead Kannada scholar, researcher Prof. MM Kalaburgi (77) on August 30, 2015 at his residence in Kalyan nagar. Kalburgi’s wife Umadevi, daughter Roopadarshi and grandson were inside the house when the tragedy struck. At first Kalburgi was rushed to a private nursing home and from there to the district civil hospital where he was declared brought dead.
