Bengaluru: Primary and Secondary Education minister S Suresh Kumar asked the state Text Book Society to submit a report on removing the lessons related to Tipu Sultan from the state syllabus textbooks.

This direction has been issued based on a letter written by Madikeri MLA Appachchu Ranjan to the minister asking him to remove the chapters on Tipu from the textbooks.

Appachchu Ranjan wants the state government to remove Tipu lessons from the textbooks citing the atrocities meted out on the Kodavas by Tipu.

Presently, lessons are taught in the primary and secondary classes in the state about Tipu under the title ‘Tiger of Mysuru’.
