Talks between State govt and lecturers fail, evaluation boycott to continue

Bengaluru: The boycott of evaluation by PU lectures with a demand to hike their pay scale seems to continue with the talks failing with the State government on Sunday.

He lecturers association has threatened to go on hunger strike form April 13, if their demands are not met.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar said the government is ready to spend that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 250 crore annually for the lecturers. But the lecturers are not agreeing for it.

The boycotting lectures are demanding the implementation of the G Kumar Naik Committee report that recommends that the basic salary be hiked from the present Rs 22,800 to Rs 25,300.

Ratnakar said the matter has to be resolved by April 13 and there will no delay in results.

As many as 20,000 lecturers under the association are on the strike since April 3. They will keep the protest on till their demands are met, said A H Ningegowda, general secretary, State PU Lecturers’ Association.
