Bengaluru: Drugs worth Rs 10 crore were found to be wasted as they had been stored after their expiry dates, in a surprise inspection on the warehouse of the Karnataka State Drugs Logistics and Warehousing Society by Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader on Tuesday, May 24.

Khader conducted the inspection after media reported that drugs worth Rs 100 crore was left unattended in the godown. He went through the documents and medicine inventory and the transactions that have taken place in the past.

Khader refuted the media reports and said that the present additional director was not responsible for the lapse as he had taken over just recently.

“Some of the drugs lying in the warehouse were 15 years old. They have not been disposed as per the Drug Disposal Rules. The warehouse has been directed to start disposing the drugs as soon as possible,” the minister said.

The warehouse was also directed to computerize their documents.
