Bengaluru: B S Yeddyurappa, president, BJP Karnataka unit, on Tuesday termed the Supreme Court order to Karnataka to release 18,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as unfair as well as unfortunate.

De-notification case: BSY denies wrongdoing in affidavit before SC-1In a release, Yeddyurappa said the BJP would stand by any decision taken by the state government in the interest of the farmers and the people. “Jagadish Shettar, the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly had moved a resolution which stated that the water from Cauvery basin must be drawn only for drinking purpose. In this background, there is no need to convene the session of legislature once again,’’ Yeddyurappa said.

On the demand for the Prime Minister’s intervention, Yeddyurappa said Congress leaders and MPs continue to indulge in cheap politics by issuing statements on the need for the intervention of the Prime Minister and the Central Government in Cauvery water dispute. “The Congress leaders have misinterpreted and twisted one of the comments of the judges,’’ he said.

He said the Supreme Court had asked the Attorney General (AG) whether it was possible for the intervention of the Union Government in this issue and the AG had sought time to tell his opinion on the issue. “At no point of time, the apex court mentioned the intervention of the Prime Minister. The devious attempt and motivated campaign of the Congress leaders to draw the PM at each and every juncture is deplorable. BJP will explore all the possibilities of getting justice to Karnataka from the Union Government. BJP appeals to the people and the farmers of Mandya and Mysuru not to lose patience and instead maintain peace,’’ he said.
