Bengaluru: The State government which had proposed setting up of Janata theatres across Karnataka which would give priority to screening of low-budget Kannada films has finally made some progress.

The government which had proposed the plan in 2015 and again in 2016 budget session by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has now allotted the required fund. As many as 100 theatres will be built across the State.
The government will start the first phase of construction with 30 theatres, said SV Rajendra, chairman of Chalanachitra Academy.
The Kannada film industry is one of the biggest industries in terms of films released every year. But the declining number of single-screen theatres is a source headache for the low-budget film producers.
