State COVID tally pushes past 5K after 378 test positive; Two deaths take toll to 59

Bengaluru: As many as 378 people tested positive for COVID-19 and two people succumbed to the disease on Saturday, June 6. This has taken the state’s tally to 5213 and death toll to 59.

Once again, the highest number of cases was reported from the Udupi district with 121 new infections, followed by Yadagir (103) and Kalaburagi (69).

The deaths were reported from Bidar and Vijayapura.

The Bidar fatality is a 55-year-old woman (Patient 1951) who was diagnosed with a severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). She had complaints of cough, breathlessness and weakness. She was admitted to a designated hospital on May 16 and died on June 5.

An 82-year-old woman from the Vijayapura district (Patient 5010) is the second fatality reported today. According to the news bulletin, she died at her residence on May 27 and had a known case of DM, HTN and IHD. She tested positive today.

The break-up of the other cases reported today are: Dakshina Kannada (24), Bengaluru Urban (18), Davanagere (6), Vijayapura (6), Belagavi (5), Gadag (4), Hassan (3), Mandya (3), Dharwad (3), Haveri (3), Raichur (2), Chikkaballapura (2), Uttara Kannada (2), Tumakuru (1), Kolar (1), Bidar (1), and Koppala (1).

As many as 280 people were discharged today, making the total number of recoveries 1968.

There are 3184 active novel coronavirus cases in the state as on June 6.
