Bangalore( DC): AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh held discussions regarding selection of candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara recently. But no names were discussed regarding elections to both Houses.

According to sources, state Congress has come up with certain guidelines while deciding on tickets to the legislative council. The guidelines include giving representation to all castes. Of the seven council seats, for which elections will be held from the assembly, the Congress is in a position to win four easily, the BJP and JD(S) one each, while the seventh seat is up for grabs.

The BJP has decided to give the ticket to former deputy CM K S Eshwarappa, who will automatically become the leader of the House. The BJP is likely to field realtor DU Mallikarjun for the seventh seat as the party will be left with 12 surplus votes and JD(S) 10 surplus votes. A candidate has to get 29 votes to win. The party’s core committee is said to have cleared hotelier Prakash Shetty’s name for the RS seat.

Meanwhile, former legislator Vatal Nagaraj met Parameshwara to seek the Congress help to get him into the council under the nomination category.

Parameshwara and the CM will meet the high command on June 4 or 5 to finalize the names for both elections scheduled on June 19.
