Silicone city witnesses heavy rains, several areas remain inundated

Bengaluru: For the second consecutive day, heavy rainfall disrupted life in the city, on Monday night. Hundreds of bikes were washed away in the flood and lake water entered several houses.

Water inundated at least 350 houses at Gottigere near the electronic city.

The basement of several houses submerged in the rainwater. In Hulimavu around 300 houses were inundated. The residents of flood-hit areas have said that even snakes have been flowing into the houses with the flood water.

Saptagiri layout, Doddakallasandra and several other low lying areas too have been flooding.

Mayor R Sampathraj informed that the BBMP has taken up the upgrade of 480-kilometre long stormwater canals and once the repair works are completed all these problems will not repeat.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy tweeted that the rain is expected to continue for two more days and directed all the civic agencies to be on standby mode to address the rain-related complaints.
