Bengaluru: While the state Congress move to have a separate flag for the Karnataka state has not gone down well with the party high command, state BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa too has lashed out at the ruling party alleging that it was trying to hide its failure during the last four years.
Rubbishing accusations that the state government has raked up the issue of a separate flag with an eye on the upcoming state polls, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the BJP was trying to politicize the issue and that elections are being held in May/June next year and not tomorrow.
Mentioning that a decision on the state flag is yet to be finalized and the government is awaiting the recommendations of nine-member panel that has been constituted the chief minister trained guns at the saffron party saying that there was nothing wrong in having a separate state flag and those stoking a controversy over the issue should read the Constitution regarding the separate state flag and then react.
“Having a flag of our own is certainly not against nationalism or integrity. By doing this, respect for the Tri-colour will not diminish, we all give it due respect. The national flag will be always on top, there is no question of hoisting any other flag atop it,” the CM added justifying the move to have a state flag.
Meanwhile few people believe that the state Congress is exhorting on the Kannada issue on similar line of the Hindutva strategy stressing on the recent opposition to Hindi signboards as well the compulsory singing of state anthem at schools.
