Shubha gets bail relief from SC

Bangalore : Shubha, an advocate by profession, was granted bail by the supreme court in a murder consipiracy case. She was serving a life sentence  for conspiring to kill her software engineer fiancé BV Girish. She has been serving her sentence at the Parappana Agrahara prison. 

Shubha was engaged to a software engineer Girish at the fag end of November 2003.  The engaged duo were strolling on the Ring road watching aeroplane landings at the HAL airport when Girish was hit on the head with a blunt object, a shock absorber and he suffered head injuries. He was shifted to the hospital but he did not survive the blows.

Later Shubha, her junior in college Arun Kumar, his relative Dinesh and an accomplice Venkatesh were arrested and charged with the murder of Girish.

In Court, it came out that  Shubha was in love with Arun and to avoid her marriage to Girish, got him murdered. Shubha and the other three were all given life sentences, by the 17th Fast Track Court in July 2010.

The four had appealed in the HC against the sentence while the prosecution sought death sentence in the HC. The High Court, in November 2010, confirmed the conviction and upheld the sentence.

Shubha and the others had filed Special Leave Applications in the Supreme Court. Venkatesh was granted bail earlier. On Monday, a division bench of the SC comprising Justice Dipak Mishra and Justice Gopala Gowda granted bail to Shubha.
