Bengaluru: As the general elections are closing in crass comments against each other by the representatives of opponent political parties are taking the centre stage. Former MLA from Congress Belur Gopalakrishna’s counter reactions to Hindu Mahasabha’s gesture towards Mahatma Gandhi and Union Minister Ananth Kumar’s widely deplored personal attack on KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao’s wife Tabassum Rao and his “chopping hands” comment, has ruffled some feathers among the Bharatiya Janata Party supporters. He also made a controversial remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in line with Ananth Kumar Hegde’s comments.

Participating in a meet against the humiliation of Mahatma Gandhi done by the Hindu Mahasabha here on Monday, February 4, Belur said, “PM Modi had promised of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya within his tenure which has not happened. But does this mean we should shoot and kill him?”

He also questioned that if PM Modi could not build the Babri Masjid, did he qualify to be shot dead.

Belur criticised Ananth Kumar Hegde’s speech on ‘chopping hands’, recently in Madikeri.

He asked the BJP party leaders a series of questions like, “How many women have they protected? Why were the ministers who watched adult videos in the sessions left to still continue in the party? Have the BJP chopped of the hands of those who had physically assaulted girls and women?”

Meanwhile, Belur strongly condemned the statement by Ananth Kumar Hegde on Dinesh Gundu Rao’s wife. Hegde had commented that Dinesh Gundu Rao is “a man who ran behind a Muslim lady.”

He asked to which religion Hegde’s wife belonged and asked him to have a DNA test done of her.
