Bengaluru: Rajyasabha MP, Lingayat leader from the Hyderabad Karnataka (HK)region Dr. Basavaraj Patil Sedam’s name has cropped up for the post of the Vice President, election for which has been scheduled on August 5.

According to the sources in state BJP unit, party state leaders are pitching for Sedam’s name with the idea of sweeping the HK region which is known as a Lingayat belt. “The NDA wants Vice President from South Indian states and Sedam is the front runner,” explained a party leader who wished to be anonymous.

“Sedam’s close association with the RSS and his low profile stature has made him perfect candidate for VP post. Sedam has close rapport with both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, ” he added.
