Rajnath speaks to Siddaramaiah on hate crime, 3 arrested

Bangalore: Home Minister Rajnath Singh, spoke to  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Thursday and  said that there should be no discrimination against anyone on the basis of caste, creed and sect.

Michael Lamjathang Haokip, 22, who is also the president of the Thadau Students’ Association, in the city from Manipur was attacked by a gang of three men at Byrathi Cross on Hennur Main Road on Tuesday. He had alleged that he was attacked for not being able to speak in Kannada

Mr. Rajnath Singh later said, “The Karnataka Chief Minister informed me that the police responded quickly and arrested all those who attacked the northeast Indian students. There should be no discrimination against anyone in our country on the basis of caste, creed or sect.”

Meanwhile, Kothanur police on Thursday opened rowdy sheets against the three arrested for attacking Manipuri student Michael Lamjathang Haokip near Byrathi Bande, Hennur on Tuesday night.

Rowdy sheets were opened against Arun Kumar (26), James (23) and Karunakar (25) after the northeast student community residing in the area complained that the gang often harassed students from the community and had unleashed a reign of terror in the area.

 Police sources said that of the three Arun Kumar had a history of crime and was involved in certain cases of assault and robbery earlier as well.
