Bengaluru: The members of Federation of Karnataka Quarry & Stone Crusher Owners’ Association on Wednesday threated to intensify their agitation if the state government failed to meet their demands within 48 hours.

Speaking after spilling gravel stones on the road in protest against the government’s failure in meeting their long-pending demands, Sanjeev Hattihole, president, Karnataka Quarry & Stone Crushers Owners’ Association said that they have been protesting for the last seven days and the agitation has badly affected the ongoing civil works in the state.

“Even after seven days of our agitation, the state government has not responded to our demands. It has failed to implement the decisions taken during the Cabinet meetings. It will be huge burden on the quarry owners,’’ Sanjeev Hattihole said.

He said the ongoing agitation has affected the livelihood of lakhs of people across the state. “We have decided to intensify our agitation. If the government fails to meet our demands in the next 48 hours, we will organize agitations in front of Deputy Commissioner Offices by spilling gravel stones,’’ he said.

Speaking on the occasion, M Shanmugappa, president, Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ Association, said that around two lakh tippers have become idle due to the ongoing agitation. “Lakhs of labourers have lost their livelihood. We are giving 48 hours to the government to meet our demands. We will intensify our agitation by parking trucks on the roads and highways,’’ Shanmugappa said.

B C Dinesh, vice-president, Karnataka Quarry & Stone Crushers Owners’ Association, said the ongoing civil works have been affected due to the non-supply of gravel stones and M-sand.
