Bangalore : JD(S) President H D Deve Gowda cleared the name of MLC Puttanna for the post of Deputy?Chairperson?of the Legislative Council on July 13. This development is despite the disapproval by many party  leaders over the alliance with the BJP for the post.

The JD(S) joined hands with BJP and allowed Chairman D H Shankaramurthy to continue. In return a JD(S) leader was to get the deputy chairperson post.

Incumbent Deputy Chairperson Vimala Gowda had resigned last week.
