Bengaluru: The tendency of using duplicate MLA car passes is on the rise. The worried police top brass is now planning to raise the issue with the government and trying to block the misuse as it is revealed to be a security threat.

Police Commissioner M N Reddi said that the police had received several complaints on public using duplicate MLA car passes and they would write a letter to the government in this regard.
He told this in a press meet on Friday in Bengaluru and said, “The police department would write to the state government soon in this regard. We would suggest the officials concerned to make the passes fool proof by using holography or other technology, so that public can not duplicate and misuse them.”
The matter gained significance as a gang of dacoits had used an MLA car pass in a recent case. In a dacoity case reported in the house of a realtor, identified as Prakash, in Mahalakshmi Layout last Monday, the miscreants were found standing in front of the house with a car bearing a duplicate MLA car pass. When the beat constables questioned them just minutes before the dacoity, they had claimed that they were supporters of Pavagada MLA and the MLA was inside the house in a meeting.
The beat constables had believed them and had left the spot after which the dacoits had struck the house of Prakash and had robbed valubles worth more than Rs. 20 lakh after threatening Prakash and his family members with a revolver.
The police commissioner said that one of the accused in the case had an ‘Om’ tatoo on his neck and the police would reward public with cash prize of Rs. 10,000 if they provide credible information about that person.
