Protests in Cauvery basin, 1,000 firemen deployed

Bengaluru: As many as 1000 men as part of the fire extinguisher team have been deployed in the Cauvery basin, according to officials from Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department (KSFESD).

From fire engines, water tenders, boats to swimmers near reservoirs, all these have been put in place in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mandya to prevent any further incidents of violence.

Over 100 vehicles were burnt and 112 damaged in the riots on September 12.

Around 150 personnel have been deployed in Bengaluru. They will be accompanied by 100 fire engines, including fire tender, lorry and other vehicles, with water capacity ranging from 3,500 to 16,000 litres. About 20 and 50 swimmers each at Kabini, KRS and Harangi will deployed to prevent people from jumping into river, said an official from KSFESD.
