Bengaluru: Former minister and mining baron G Janardhana Reddy’s release from jail expected today, has prompted the imposition of prohibitory orders on Thursday, January 22, in about half-a-km radius around the Parappana Agrahara prison, from 12 noon on January 22 to mid night on January 23.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday had granted bail to Reddy, who is an accused in the illegal mining case involving his Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC). Reddy, facing several criminal cases, was arrested in 2011. The apex court had granted bail after CBI submitted that the investigation in the case involving Reddy is complete and both the charge sheet as well as the supplementary charge sheet have been filed.

While granting bail, the bench imposed certain conditions including that Reddy will be released from jail on furnishing two sureties of Rs 10 lakh each and that he shall not leave the country without the permission of the court while directing him to surrender his passport

The prohibitory orders have been promulgated to manage the  large number of his supporters who are expected to gather near Parappana Agrahara prison on January 22 and 23 for celebrations. The police are apprehensive that  this may disturb peace and normalcy in the area, and may cause damage to property and traffic congestion in the locality, according to the City Police Chief M N Reddi.
