Bengaluru: As of 5 pm, an approximate 66.05% voter turnout was reported for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka across 14 constituencies. Among these segments, the highest turnout of 72.75% was observed in Chikkodi, followed by 72.07% in Shimoga, with the lowest at 57.20% in Gulbarga.
The constituencies where elections are being held include Bagalkot, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Chikkodi, Belgavi, Raichur, Bidar, Dharwad, Koppal, Bellary, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Davangere, and Shimoga.
Uttara Kannada MP Ananthkumar Hegde, who was denied a BJP ticket by his party’s high command, exercised his right at a polling station established at the KHB Higher Primary School in Sirsi. Interestingly, the MP waited for about 15 minutes after arriving at the polling booth, then stood in the queue along with his wife Roopa. Hegde refused to speak to the media and left the scene, stating that casting a vote is everyone’s right.
Poll Officer Dies on Duty
A polling officer died while on duty due to cardiac arrest at a polling station in Jagir Jadaldinni village in Devadurga taluk, Raichur district. The deceased, identified as Basavaraj, 56, was a headmaster at a government school and was discharging duty as a BLO when this unfortunate incident occurred.
