Bengaluru: The controversy regarding the ban on Rajinikanth starrer Tamil movie ‘Kaala’ in Karnataka because of his statement on Cauvery issue is now in front of High Court.
As the pro-Kannada organizations have warned against the release of the movie in the state, production company Wunderbar Films Private Limited Company and producers – Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya and son-in-law Dhanush have filed a petition in the court.
In the petition it is mentioned that on the pretext of Rajinikanth’s statement – that the Government of Karnataka should follow the order of the Supreme Court regarding sharing of Cauvery water, Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce (KFCC) President Sa. Ra Govindu said that they won’t allow the distribution or release of ‘Kala’ in the state. This is an attempt of snatching our Constitutional rights.”
‘Kala’ will be released across the world, including Karnataka in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, on June 7. The production cost of the movie is around Rs140 crore and it is expected that the movie would earn around Rs 15 to 20 crores in Karnataka,” the petition said.
The petitioners also requested that proper security be provided to those who release the movie across the state, and also to the distributors, Rajinikanth Fans Association members and those who cooperate for the release.
