Plans to Provide Milk 6-Days of Week to Students:CM

Bangalore: The state administration is seriously thinking about providing milk to students for six-day of week, which was provided now only twice a week under Ksheerabaghya project, said CM Siddaramaiah.

CM Siddaramaiah was speaking after offering motion for the new project Vidhyasiri that was launched by state social welfare department during a function held at Vidhan Soudha banquet hall.The measures are taken to distribute milk to students for six-day of week, said CM Siddaramaiah.

Under Ksheerabhagya project, 65 lac students from Class I to Class X and 39 lac children in Anganawadi are availing the free milk.  The state administration is reviewing the proposal to supply milk to all days of week except Sunday added CM Siddaramaiah.

Under the Vidhyasiri project, the state government will grant Rs 15,000 annually to students.  It would benefit those who have not availed hostel facilities.  Its not limited to backward classes, instead it will be extended to SC/ST also.  The financial assistance could be utilized by the students on private hostels in order to continue the studies, added CM Siddaramaiah.

The state government will open 100 girls hostels this year.The process is underway to identify the land. An active plan will be drawn up for the most urgent need of girls education, said CM Siddaramaiah.

CM Siddaramaiah further said that the girls are deprived of education due to lack of hostel facilities.  “I have seen the plight of girls during my recent visit to Mangalore,” said CM Siddaramaiah.  At this backdrop, more number of hostels will be opened at the earliest, clarified CM Siddaramaiah.
