Bangalore: The security agencies had plans to equip all city bus stops with CCTV cameras. Taking the plan forward now, BMTC is all set to equip its bus stands and TTMCs with cameras.
Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradhkar said that transport agencies were instructed to bring in the CCTV cameras for security purposes after the blast. “I will now follow up on the progress the project has made. We will be holding a meeting with transport agencies, on how to move forward with the plan,” added Commissioner Auradkar.
In the meantime, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation is all set to introduce CCTVs on 500 of its buses as a pilot. The CCTVs on Buses project has now been given approval and the tendering process is also complete. In the first phase, the BMTC will introduce CCTVs on 500 buses. The cameras will be installed on all buses, besides Volvo.
For monitoring, the CCTVs, the BMTC at its head office in Shantinagar will also start a operations control room.
According to a senior BMTC official, in the first phase the CCTV cameras will be installed in the buses and once that pilot project has been completed, the security upgradation at the bus terminals will also take place.
