Bengaluru: Condemning crime against women, the local residents had staged a protest in front of the Town Hall on Sunday, December 15.

The theme of the protest was “#NIRBHAYADISHAME”.

Sandalwood actor/social activist Chetan Kumar in a conversation with ANI said that protest was not staged only against the recent cases, but also towards the normalization of violence against women, be it sexual harassment, rape etc., claiming that it was accepted at a larger scale.

He said that the protest was to challenge the current atrocities against women and to bring about a gender-sensitive approach.

Chetan opined that boys needed to be educated on how to behave with girls.

Some of the protestors said that the home environment had a major role to play in such cases as the girls are restricted in many ways and the boys are never questioned. They also urged that this was a ‘wake-up call’ for everybody, especially the judiciary system to act swiftly and punish the accused.
