Bengaluru: Newly inducted Transport Minister H M Revanna inaugurated the 92nd Bus Day of BMTC in a unique way here on September 4.
Revanna on Monday, after inaugurating the Bus Day at Lalbagh Circle on K H Road travelled in a BMTC bus from Shantinagar to Vidhana Soudha to attend his maiden Cabinet meeting.
In order to create awareness among the public to make more and more use of public transport and give up private vehicles, the BMTC officials created a human chain, in which the minister also took part.
BMTC President Nagaraj Yadav, Vice President Govinda Raju, Managing Director Dr. V Ponnuraj, students from Wilson Garden Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose School, Bus Commuters Association members, Give Way Ambulance Agency members, BMTC officials and staff were present on the occasion.
Bus Day which is observed on the fourth day of every month or the next Monday if it happens to be a weekend, is in its 8th year now. It is observed in order to attract more and more people to use public transport thereby controlling traffic menace and ensuring pollution-free environment in the city.
Minister said that in these last 7 years, Bus Day had helped to save fuel consumption, check pollution and control traffic. He also gave roses to commuters travelling in private vehicles and asked them to use public transport as much as possible.
