River Netravathi is today facing a major problem due to pollution caused by the dams, bridges, IP sets, industries and vehicles
Lorries from Hassan, Chikmagalur and Mysore which transport poultry to the coastal districts, during their return trip, dump the poultry wastes into the River contaminating its water to a great extent.
Though washing vehicles on Netravathi River Banks is banned and even a sign board is put up, people tend to turn a blind eye to the rule. The residue of pesticides used in agricultural lands also enter the river water further adding to the problems.
River Netravathi, the pride and lifeline of the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada is already ridden with problems and the Yettinahole Project which the state government is now implementing would prove disastrous.
