Bengaluru: A mother and her one and a half year old daughter were knocked down by a speeding train near Sadarahalli near Hoodi railway gate on Monday under Cantonment Railway police station limits. They died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Khushbu Devi, 38 and daughter Sunitha residents of Sadaramangala and they are natives of Bihar. Police said that Khushbu was married to Amardeep a few years ago and the family had come down to the city a few months ago and was working as construction laborers.
The incident occurred while the family was on their way to the city railway station to board the train to go to their native place to attend a function.
Police said that, on Monday around 5 am the family who was on their way to city railway station reached Sadarahalli gate. There they saw the railway gate was closed as a train was approaching. In a bid to cross the gate, Amardeep and his family rushed to the other side of the tracks but realized that their daughter’s shoe had fallen off on the track. Khushbu who was carrying her daughter in her lap rushed to pick up the shoe and was knocked down by a speeding train and died instantly.
Hearing loud screams of Amardeep few passersby who gathered at the spot informed Cantonment railway police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem.
A case has been registered in Cantonment Railway police station.
