Bengaluru: The first cricket stadium in the world to utilize solar energy, the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium has generated more than six lakh units of electricity in a year.

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) claims that the installation of the solar power plant has prevented the emission of 600 tonnes of carbon dioxide. They are now planning to install more solar panels on the west end.
According to sources, KSCA used to spend Rs 1-1.2 crore on electricity for 16 lakh units of electricity annually. The solar panels were installed only on the east end. With the expense coming down, there are talks of getting new solar panels.
Association’s Honorary Secretary Brijiesh Patel has said that 1.3MW capacity solar panels will be installed on the west end and surplus electricity would be sold to BESCOM for extra revenue.
