Bengaluru: Around a dozen members of the Legislative Council will stage a protest on September 6 in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue demanding that the State government fulfill their demands.

BJP MLC Arun Shahpur has said that 13 MLCs will stage a protest throughout the day for demands such as providing grant-in-aid to private schools that were established after 1995 as well.

If the State government does not fulfill their demands, they have threatened to call for a boycott of classes on September 14.

Cong candidate Ibrahim elected unopposed

C.M. Ibrahim of the Congress has been elected unopposed in the byelection to the Karnataka Legislative Council. As Opposition parties did not field candidates, Ibrahim was elected unopposed, said Assembly in-charge secretary, S. Murthy.

The bye-election was necessitated following the death of Vimala Gowda, BJP MLC. The newly elected member’s tenure will end in June 2018. Ibrahim served as Union Minister in the H.D. Deve Gowda government. He lost the 2013 Assembly elections from Bhadravati constituency in Shivamogga district.
