Bengaluru: In an incident which you can call only a miracle, a 19-month old child survived a 25-feet fall. The child recovered in a couple of days without any major surgery.

The child, Tanisha who was playing with her older brother, fell down through the railing of the balcony on the third floor. He went and immediately informed his mother who was inside. The mother was horrified seeing her little one on the concrete floor, 25-feet below.

The mother splashed some water on the child’s face which surprisingly made Tanisha regain consciousness. She was then rushed to Sapthagiri Hospital. It is said that Tanisha was conscious all the while and crying continuously.

The little child had no external injury, but her skull had split open inside. The doctors, Dr Suman Pallegar, consultant neurosurgeon, People Tree Hospital, along with Dr Ravi Sachidanand, consultant ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon, performed a 45-minute minor surgery.

The doctors said that it was indeed a miracle that the child survived such a fall. Dr Pallegar said, ”Generally in such cases, we have to decompress the brain by taking out a portion the skull to allow the swelling to expand and we wait for the swelling to subside. Surprisingly in Anisha’s case, the skull had cracked open in such a way that it had partially given space for the brain to expand due to the fall. This was something that was unexpected as there was no surgery required because the skull had already opened”.

The child was treated to reduce further brain swelling and prevent epilepsy.

Parents Mahendar and Manju Devi have reportedly taken measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
