Bengaluru: A city-based woman dentist has been lauded for reviving the newborn child of a migrant labourer, who delivered just outside the former’s clinic.
The mother had failed to find a hospital where she could deliver her child even after having walked 7 kms.
The incident is reported to have occurred on April 14 morning, however, it came to light recently.
Ever since the incident came to light, netizens have been showering praises on the doctor, identified as Dr Ramya Himanish, who runs a dental clinic in the Dodda Bommasandra area.
Shanti, the migrant worker, had walked seven kms in search of a hospital in the city, as public and private transport has been suspended due to the ongoing lockdown.
When she could not find a hospital, she went into labour and delivered the child on the pavement next to the dentist’s clinic. As the child was unresponsive, the mother’s husband assumed that the child was dead and wrapped it in a newspaper.
Dr Himanish, who noticed the mother bleeding on the pavement, rushed to the couple (both from Odisha) and took the mother and newborn inside her clinic.
Speaking to PTI, the doctor explained that first she brought the mother inside and gave her treatment as she was bleeding. “I then checked the baby. After resuscitation, the child returned to life.”
The doctor then arranged for an ambulance and sent the woman and the baby to a government hospital for further medical treatment.
