Bengaluru: After the Nikhil Kumaraswamyu-Revati marriage sparked controversy all over the country, the Karnataka High Court, on Tuesday, April 21, questioned the state government on how it permitted the ceremony to be conducted during the lockdown.
Taking the state government to task, the HC asked the former to file a response that details on what basis permission was granted for Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s (son of former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy) wedding ceremony.
The state government has been asked to file its response by April 24.
It can be recalled that Nikhil married Revati, the grandniece of former minister M Krishnappa on April 17 at a resort in Ramanagara district’s Bidadi. While H D Kumaraswamy insisted that it would be a small affair that would be attended by a few family members, the wedding photos spoke the contrary.
While sources close to Kumaraswamy claimed that guests were asked to wear masks and gloves, photos clearly showed how social distancing was the last thing on anyone’s mind as people were seen huddled together sans masks.
It is also said that 48 cases with about 100 people were allowed to attend the wedding, despite the stringent lockdown norms.
It can be noted that the state is still under lockdown due to the coronavirus and gatherings of any sort have been banned by the government as a measure to contain the spread of the disease.
