Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the second time drawing his attention to resolve the Mahadayi river water sharing issue.

The CM in his letter to the PM on Thursday, requested Modi to convene a meeting between Karnataka, Goa and Maharashatra. He has urged the PM to intervene and resolve the matter through mediation.
“The agitation by the farmers might escalate which must be avoided in any event. In view of this, I request you once again to consider convening an inter-state meeting of all three riparian states at the earliest.” wrote Siddaramaiah.
He also reminded Modi of his earlier letter on April 26 this year seeking his intervention to resolve the dispute.
The Tribunal has rejected Karnataka’s plea for an interim order to allow the state to draw 7.56 tmcft water from the Mahadayi river to Malaprabha reservoir through two canals at Kalasa and Banduri. The Tribunal’s ruling against Karnataka led to widespread agitation, especially by farmers of North Karnataka.
