Bangalore :State Energy Minister DK Shivakumar has said that the government was committed to offer linemen jobs even to women candidates, provided they are ready to climb the electric poles.

The minister  said so during the assembly session on Tuesday June 24 when BJP member Tara questioned why women were discriminated upon in the Energy Department at a time when women  have even been part of space missions.

The minister  said  until  now women were  exempted from the linemen posts in the Energy Department. In case they are ready to climb the poles, we are ready to offer the jobs to them, he declared.

He further said as  discharging duties as a lineman was a tough job women were not given the posts. At the same time he said the department followed all reservation rules in appointments to A and B division staff in the department.
