Bengaluru: ‘Leura 2014’ the charity concert organized by the Jyothi Nivas College Autonomous (JN) was  initiated by the Principal, Dr. Sr. Elizabeth to raise funds for charity in keeping with the spirit of Christmas.

The event was organized in the hope that like the other ventures of the Sisters of St. Josephs of Tarbes, whose commendable work in the field of healthcare and education in places like Summanahalli, Ooty and parts of North India are considered to be of great value, this venture  too would help reach out to the underprivileged sections of society.

The Chief Guest for the event was Dr.Fr.Santhosh Kumar while Sister Emma Machado was the Guest of Honour. The event began with the lighting of the lamp along with an invocation dance by ‘Advaiya’ in accordance with JNC’s tradition. Ms Roshni Shetty from the Department of Commerce and Management welcomed the gathering. “This is the first ever concert for such a humble cause in JNC, it’s a brilliant way to begin the season of Christmas” said Swathy a second year tourism student.

The Principal Dr. Sr. Elizabeth addressed the gathering and congratulated the choir.  The JNC choir  set the ball rolling and put the audience in the Christmas mood.. Many choirs graciously accepted the invitation to participate in the concert.  The first choir to perform was St.Joseph’s College of Commerce followed by Mount Carmel College and Jyoti Nivas Pre-University Choir. Dr.Fr.Santhosh mesmerised the audience with his saxophone performance of old Bollywood numbers. Each choir conductor received a token of appreciation from JNC.

After a short interval the JNC choir again took to stage followed by the Mizo Church Choir, the choir from St Anthony’s Friary, Soulful Harmony, and finally St.Joseph’s College of Arts and Science.

The JNC choir took to stage one last time for the evening ending the successful concert with a bang before Mr. Roshan Sylvester, from the Department of Communicative English,  delivered  the Vote of Thanks.
