Bengaluru: House committee on lake encroachments chairperson KB Koliwad has sought a survey report on all lakes in Bengaluru from the revenue department in three months, thus delaying its report. 300 surveyors of the survey, settlement & land records are now checking department checking 1,600 lakes. The original date of submission was 15th June.

The revenue department has been told to submit updates every 15 days. Beginning Saturday, 30-odd lakes are being surveyed daily and top officials of the department are getting SMS updates on the matter.

Munish Moudgil, commissioner, survey, settlement & land records, told the english daily Times of India: “By late last month, we had 88 surveyors doing the job; now we have more than 300 at work. By August-end, we will have all details about such encroachments.”

Every night, senior officials of the department get a list of lakes to be surveyed the next morning and checks are done to ensure their efficacy and commitment. “It’s a difficult task and we want it to be foolproof,” he added. The deployment has affected the department’s other work, said officials.
