Bengaluru: The Karnataka unit of the BJP party has called famous historian Ramachandra Guha an “urban Naxal” after the latter took part in an anti-CAA protest in Bengaluru and was subsequently detained by police.

In a series of tweets posted from their official Twitter handle, BJP Karnataka said, “Q: Who are you? A: I am @Ram_Guha (Ramachandra Guha). #UrbanNaxals who operate in a Dark World are completely unknown to the Common Man.”

The tweet further stated, “They make their presence felt through inciting violence & organizing protests at the behest of their Masters. They are getting exposed now.”

Aged 61, Ram Guha is a historian who authored several books documenting Indian history. Guha’s latest work serves as a biography of Mahatma Gandhi.

It can be recalled that a video showing the historian being detained by Bengaluru Police for participating in an anti-CAA protest went viral over social media. After his release, Guha had tweeted that the detention of citizens for protesting was “absolutely undemocratic”, and further said that a peaceful protest was the democratic right of citizens.
