Bengaluru: Along with mobile messages and social media, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has also initiated efforts to increase awareness about the importance of voting among the public. From Saturday, April 21, passengers would observe a message on the bus ticket to “excercise their franchise by voting on May 12”.
“Everyday around 8,800 KSRTC buses ply and 28 lakh people travel in these buses. Out of these, 20% people reserve their tickets through e-booking. The remaining 22 lakh passengers collect the ticket directly from the conductor. They will get the message in the printed form. Those who reserve their seat, get it in the form of an SMS,” said a KSRTC official.
Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has also thought of increasing awareness about the importance of voting by displaying the messages on the electronic boards in the metro train cars. Voting date, the importance of voting and a request will be displayed on these boards. There are 6,000 buses with BMTC but, the campaign will be initiated in the buses which are not under contract.
