Bengaluru: Without much clarity on the reasons, the KSRTC employee abruptly called off their indefinite strike on Tuesday, merely two days after the stir kicked off on Sunday.

The KSRTC buses including BMTC started rolling on roads and if sources are to be believed the suspension of few employees and the fear of slamming Essential Services Maintenance Act are said to be the reasons behind the KSRTC employees returning to work. Meanwhile, the government had reportedly called the trainee drivers and conductors on duty so as to resume the KSRTC services, which too may have added to the decision of the protesters to get back to work. However, the reasons have not yet been confirmed.

On Sunday, the KSRTC employees started an indefinite strike mainly demanding 35 per cent hike in salary, which the government refused to fulfill. The state government had agreed to pay 10 per cent hike, which the union members refused to accept.

On Tuesday, Two BMTC buses resumed services on Chandapura and Jalahalli cross routes, BMTC sources said. Though the buses ran almost empty, the withdrawal of the stir brought the much needed relief to the commuters.

Even in district like Shimoga and Dakshina Kannada, where the dependence on private bus service is more than the public sector transport services, the KSRTC buses started off on Tuesday evening. A bus to Dharmasthala and to Kasaragod left the Mangaluru KSRTC depot at about 4.45 pm with police protection.

Meanwhile, the official announcement is yet come from union side as well as from government’s decision on the issue.
