Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor Sudeep has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to preserve the water bodies especially dry lakes in Bengaluru.
Raising concern over growing denotification and encroachment bid which eventually results in the killing of lakes in the city, Sudeep wrote a letter to CM on Google Plus on Tuesday and urged to rejuvenate the dying lakes.
“Our lakes are our lifeline. Breathing life into them will breathe life into nature. Nature here is every plant to tree to birds, animals and people. So killing the lakes is killing mother nature. Sincerely request you sir and government to reconsider denotification of dry lakes. Let us avoid becoming a reason for mother nature’s fury. We have lost enough already and I am sure we can atleast save what is left.”
“This is not a letter to you from an actor sir, this is a letter on behalf of every common man. With love towards my state, city, my fellow people and nature,” he concluded.
It may be recalled that the Cabinet recently put forward a proposal to denotify around 1500 dying lakes. There has been opposition from various corners including the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. Even the opposition parties BJP and the JD(S) slammed the proposal.
However, Revenue Minister Kagodu Timmappa had clarified saying that the proposal was misunderstood and said it only applied to water bodies that could not be restored to their original position.
