Bengaluru: The Karnataka government notified the new traffic violations penalty rules implemented by the union government. The state transport department issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, as the notification was issued on Tuesday evening after the office hours, it will come to effect from Wednesday across the state. As per the notification, the traffic police officers above the rank of ASI can collect the fine amount. Even the ticketless travel in the state-run buses like KSRTC and BMTC will amount to a traffic violation, specifying a fine of Rs.500.

The new rule is expected to lead to a wave of public anger as the fine amount is too high. But experts point out that such a rule is inevitable as the road accidents are increasing at a dangerous level, mainly due to traffic rule violations.
