Bengaluru: In a big relief to the small fishermen and the traditional fish boat owners, the Karnataka High Court approved the central government’s decision to ban the Light Fishing and Bull trawling fishing in the deep sea of Karnataka coasts.
In 2017, the central government had banned both of these, but fishermen engaged in mechanized fisheries activities had moved the court seeking relief.
The Karnataka High Court, on Wednesday, approved the central government’s notification. The advocates for the central government strongly argued that the order has been issued keeping in mind the sustainable fisheries practices. Following the High Court judgement, the fisheries department directed the fishermen not to violate the rules.
