Bengaluru/New Delhi: A tweet by Editor-in-Chief of Kannada Prabha and Suvarna News 24/7 Vishweshwar Bhat in connection to the mysterious death of Additional Commissioner (enforcement) Commercial Tax, D.K Ravi appears to have irked state Home Minister K.J George.
“Recently D.K Ravi as Commercial Tax Additional Commissioner raided Home Minister K.J.George’s Real Estate Company”, tweeted Mr. Bhat at 12.53 am on March 17.
During the debate (Newshour) on Times Now channel, National Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa referred to this tweet and added that legal action against the ‘right wing’ journalist would be taken for his baseless tweet.
Kalappa argued with Editor-in-Chief of Times Now, Arnab Goswami that prima-facie the facts put out by a right wing journalist is a blatant lie. “When I spoke to K J George, he conveyed that tweet was false and legal action would be carried out against the journalist.”
Reacting to the information divulged by Kalappa in a packed and aggressive panel discussion, Vishweshwar Bhat told Newskarnataka.com, he posted the tweet based on the reports published by many sections of the media. He contended saying “The whole world knows Embassy Golf Links (EGL) belongs to the Home Minister K J George.”
He further said he had tweeted (second tweet, 10.15 am on March 18) challenging both Brijesh Kalappa and Home Minister to take action against him for tweets on D K Ravi. “What is so objectionable in my tweet?” he asked.

Besides, he wanted to know why the state government was reluctant to handover the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “The government’s reluctance only caste shadow of suspicious of links between the death of Ravi and recent ride on George’s EGL Company”, he mentioned.
On the other hand, panel participant of Newshour debate and Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa speaking from New Delhi said journalist has taken this issue very personally. However he confirmed to Newskarnataka.com that he was told by the Home Minister of the state that action would be initiated. He expressed right leaning journalist’s (without naming Vishweshwar Bhat) tweet was baseless as according to Kalappa’s knowledge home minister does not own such real estate company mentioned in the tweet.
He added he would not mind if he was dragged to 140 character twitter war and into current political uproar over the death. “I am a politician and I would not mind dealing with the subject, if am dragged,” he conveyed. Brijesh countered the second tweet of Bhat challenging duo politicians, claiming if journalist feels his reputation was damaged by his statement journo could avail defamation tool.
