Bengaluru: There seems to be no end to journalists being arrested for blackmail. The latest addition to the list of such journalists is FOCUS TV managing director Hemantha Kumar Kammara (40). This TV channel is now defunct and only operates a website.

According to sources, Kammara was arrested for blackmailing BJP leader Aravind Limbavali over a video. He was demanding a payment of Rs 50 lakhs.

If sources in the CCB are to be believed, Kammara created a fake WhatsApp account under the name of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s personal assistant, seeking information about the alleged video clipping. He used the names of a few JDS leaders to pressurise Limbavali.

“In turn Limbavali approached the CCB police. Kammara was arrested by the police on Sunday,” said sources.

Meanwhile, CCB DCP Girish informed that a number of CDs and other materials were seized from Kammara’s residence and office. “If anyone has been blackmailed by Kammara, they can approach the police,” Girish informed.
