Bengaluru: The JD(S) has announced its candidates for three Lok Sabha constituencies after deliberation. There was curiosity among political enthusiasts and the public regarding the JD(S) party’s choice for the Kolar Lok Sabha seat. After much speculation, the party announced Mallesh Babu as its candidate, a name suggested by JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda.
Though former CM HD Kumaraswamy had unofficially stated his intention to contest from the high-profile Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, it was officially confirmed today. Both JD(S) and BJP, who formed an alliance in the state, sought to field their candidates from Mandya. Sumalatha Ambareesh, the current independent MP who recently expressed support for BJP, was seeking a ticket from BJP to contest the election. However, BJP yielded to the pressure of the alliance and offered the seat to JD(S) as part of the seat-sharing pact.
The party also announced the candidature of Prajwal Revanna, a sitting MP, from Hassan. The BJP and JD(S) are jointly contesting the general election, with the saffron party fielding candidates on 25 seats and JD(S) on three. Former PM HD Deve Gowda’s son-in-law, Dr. CN Manjunath, is contesting the election from the Bengaluru Rural seat on a BJP ticket.
