Jayalalitha bail plea hearing today, strict vigil near HC

Bangalore: The City police have made elaborate security arrangements in and around the High Court and the Central Prisons at Parappana Agrahara as the court, on Tuesday, will hear a criminal appeal by former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha.

The AIADMK supremo and three others have moved the High Court, seeking bail and suspension of sentence awarded by a special court in the disproportionate assets case.

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in a radius of one kilometre of the High Court and Parappana Agrahara police station. The prohibitory orders came into effect on Monday midnight and will be in force till Tuesday midnight.

A large number of AIADMK leaders and workers are expected to gather on the court premises and also near the Central Prisons on Tuesday. The intelligence wing of the City police has said anti-social elements may try to disrupt peace and harmony. Hence, additional measures have been taken to protect properties and lives, said City Police Commissioner M N Reddi.

The police have beefed up security at all check points on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border and have started conducting thorough checks of vehicles, besides frisking people.
