IT sleuths raid Vydehi Institute, Rs 43 crore cash seized

Bengaluru: In one of its biggest raid, IT sleuths raided a residence of a hospital’s trustee and seized a whopping Rs 43 crore in cash.

Based on a tipoff provided by sources and agencies, concerned income tax sleuths carried out a surprise raid on the residence of a trustee member attached with Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences situated at Whitefield, Bengaluru. The raid began on last Friday morning and concluded on Tuesday night.

According to sources, IT sleuths seized wads of currencies consisting denomination of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes stashed at the residence. Meanwhile, IT sleuths also seized documents of unaccounted money transaction worth up to Rs 246 crore, said sources. The sleuths also carried out raids on the institution’s sister establishments at Hyderabad, Delhi and other places.

Total worth of unaccounted money dealings is yet to be disclosed. This comes as the biggest IT raid in terms of unaccounted money involved in the state till date. Last year, another medical college was under raid where Rs 19 crore cash was seized at Raichur.

The cash stashed is said to be collected amount from the students as capitation fee for various courses especially Medical and Dental course seats.

Over all 17 people are under radar in the case and the final countdown is expected to go upwards, sources said.

The chain of institutions is owned by liquor barren Adikeshavalu family.
